December has gone. It left us a little of everything, including confusion. Only a year apart, this month of December gave us the following contrasts. The warmest December temperature of 1983 was 52 degrees. In 1984 it was 74 degrees. The coldest temperature this December was 17 degrees warmer than the coldest recorded a year ago (15 degrees compared to two below zero).
Many people have an interest in weather as it nears Christmas Day. Warmer temperatures, they say, do not make it seem like Christmas. In 1983, on Christmas Day, the thermometer recorded only a total of +11 degrees: A high of 13. A low of -2. Programs Offered
Piedmont Technical Education Center is once again beginning its Adult Basic Education (ABE) program to serve the citizens of Culpeper, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock ' Counties. Currently, the center offers free ABE classes to adults with less than a 9th grade education at the school on Route 15, five miles south of the town of Culpeper. Instruction stresses skills in the areas of reading, writing, spelling, arithmetic, and other basic subjects.
The center is also offering its General Educational Development (GED) classes. These classes are designed to prepare adults who have a ninth grade or higher education to sit for the GED examination. Anyone who, through testing, is shown to be functioning at a level above the ninth grade on reading
