The landfill has lost and we think the people of Rappahannock have won. Here’s why.
Landfill as a means of waste management cannot be the method of the future. The means to convert trash into energy exists now, if in an imperfect form. With such technology already in existence and sure to be perfected soon, why would Rappahannock want to revert to an almost obsolete method of waste-disposal? We think our county should look to the future and be among the first to make an efficient use of trash. That even sounds exciting. ‘Efficient use of trash!’ Who would have thought it possible? It is possible, though, so let’s do it.
Rappahannock County, as everyone knows, is fortunate enough to be beautiful almost beyond description. And this is something we all take pride in. Why, then, with alternatives available, would we ever locate a very large dump anywhere in our county? Which would be ugly almost beyond description.
