to. Aging Services provides free meals 3 da$s a week (M, Th, F, llam-2pm) at the Trinity Episcopal Church. Meals also are delivered once a week into homes. To qualify for home delivery of meals a person must be at least 60 years of age, restricted to the home and unable to prepare meals. A nurse visits the home of each applicant to determine eligibility.
Occasionally, a victim of abuse or neglect will resist any attempt to be helped. In such a case, Kreitler can obtain a court order, effective five days, allowing her to enforce whatever remedy she thinks necessary. The court order can be renewed once for five days.
The Code of Virginia requires Physicians, Nurses, Social Workers, Mental Health Professionals, and Law Enforcement Officers to report suspected abuse or neglect of 1) persons 60 years old and older, and 2) incapacitated persons 18 years old and older.
If anyone has reason to suspect that an elderly or incapacitated adult is abused or neglected, report the situation to your local Department of Social Services.
