The quiet hillside pastures of Thornton Hill Farm in Sperryville will resound with the thunder of hooves and the cheers of spectators this Saturday as the Virginia point-to-point season moves into Rappahannock Hunt territory.
This will be a very important meet for the hunt as proceeds from the races will go toward completing the hunt’s new kennels located on the farm beside the race course.
Racing begins at the picturesque farm with the hunter pairs at 10:30 a.m. At noon the jump races begin with a card of nine races, including a unique race for foxhounds.
“Everything’s looking great,” Eva Dahlgren, joint chairman of the races, said of the course Monday. “If the weather holds we’ll have really good footing. There’s a little more grass than last year. I’m really looking forward to these races.”
