tant and is also the Services Coordinator. The volunteers may work as oneon-one counsellors with victims or in one of the other aspects of the WAS like shelter up-keep or publicity.
The WAS, in cooperation with the Fauquier County Department of Social Services, has recently begun a support group for battered victims. The group meets every Thursday at 10 a.m. in Culpeper, and the WAS provides babysitting during the meetings. There are also plans for a children’s group since studies have shown that at least 70 percent of children involved in domestic violence cases are in need of assistance. More information on the support group can be obtained from the Rappahannock Department of Social Services.
“We want to work with getting rid of the abuse of women and child abuse at the same time since they usually go hand in hand,” Simmons said.
