Foxhunters will contest the seventh race, a two-mile timber race. Fairfax Station resident Carey Shefte, winner of the Casanova foxhunters’ race, will ride once again on her Rulan’s Baby, heading a field of seven entries.
The final race of the day is perhaps the most unusual.
Open to any hound owner in Rappahannock Hunt territory and members of the Northern Virginia Foxhunters Association, the race is a test of the hounds’ abilities to run and follow a scent.
Many of the hounds follow the drag halfway around the course but then lose the scent or find something more interesting. For hound owners it is a unique opportunity to see whose hound is fastest and surest, but it may result in a frustrating chase should the hound fail to make its way around the course..
