truly the epitome of a hard-working and successful business team. Having settled in Jim's hometown of Sperryville in 1970, the Swindlers immediately went to work restoring and expanding The House Of Baskets (now Chipmunk Hollow). In 1973 the Swindlers built Country Manor, a 10,000 square foot building which now houses a retail store, a deli, a wholesale department and the mail order offices for Country Manor s catalog - all of which are overseen by Jim & Phyllis. Today the mainstay of the business is direct mail. The catalog was started in 1981 with a bought list of under 20,000 names and has grown to the point where it presently has an in-house list of over 100,000 retail customers and close to 1000 wholesale customers. The hard work has paid off for Jim & Phyllis in the form of recognition of their efforts by magazines such as Country Living, Country Home, House Beautiful and Colonial Homes among others. Country Manor has achieved a reputation as a quality source of classic country items from the Blue Ridge Mountains. With the same hard work and dedication that has brought success in the past, Phyllis & Jim will continue to preside over the expansion of their businesses and will always be a viable part of Sperryville and Rappahannock's business community.
