The governor’s case was not hard to make. While the national Democrats have marched from disaster to disaster in the last two presidential elections, at the state level the Democrats claim 35 of the 50 governorships, three-quarters of the state legislative seats and comfortable control of the U.S. House of Representatives. In addition, across the country, the Democrats hold an overwhelming advantage in city council and county government offices. Robb and his allies sed no reason why this kind of bedrock support cannot be translated into victories in national elections.
