Rappahannock returned to the win column Wednesday night With a slchre of 6,3-41 over Brentsville. “We played one of our better games although 'no one showed much enthusiasm,” Coach Dawson said. Tommy Jenkins was high scorer for Rappahannock with 25 points.
Rappahannock met Manassas Park on Thursday night and had another disappointing game. “We didn’t play well, and at halftime we were down 12-30," Coach Dawson said. “We played better in the second half and the second unit played well in the fourth quarter, but we lost 61-42."
The varsity team won its final game of the season against Page County, ranked number one in the district. “It was probably the best game we played all year because we controlled the tempo,” Coach Dawson said. “We played good defense, were tied at halftime and down by seven with a minute and a half to go.”
Mike Atkins and Ricky Shaw then hit key shots, and Robb Brown stole an inbounds pass and hit a 20 foot jumper with 20 seconds left on the clock. He also hit a foul shot with two seconds left to win the game by a score of 54-52.
Jeff Porter had 18 points during the game, and Robb Brown had 13. The varsity began tournament play Wednesday night, February 27 against Stonewall Jackson. Before the game, Coach Dawson said that he hoped the momentum from the Page County game would carry over to the game with Stonewall.
