Book Discussion At Library
“Growing Up in the South,” a five part book discussion series opens at the Library Monday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. with Dr. Suzanne Jones of the University of Richmond as Keynote speaker.
The program is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and is free to the public. Registration will begin on February 11 when brochures will be mailed.
Eudora Welty’s memoir One Writer's Beginnings is recommended reading before the first lecture. This and the other four books may be borrowed from the Library now, and paperbacks of the others will be for sale at the Library beginning next week.
Babe Ruth Tryouts
Babe Ruth baseball tryouts will be held on March 2 and 9 at Rappahannock High School beginning at 10 a.m. for 13 to 15 year olds. The event is sponsored by the Rappahannock Athletic Association.
GED Test To Be Given
The General Educational Development Test (GED Test) for those persons who were once enrolled in school but who did not complete graduation requirements, will be given on Saturday, March 9 and again on Saturday, March 16. Testing oh both days will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. The test will be given in the Warren County Vocational Center.
The tests, administered anti supervised by the Adult Education Service of the State Department of Education, are designed to measure the educational development of individuals who left school before graduation.
The battery of five tests in English Composition, Social Studies, Natural Science, Literature and Mathematics are designed to measure the major skills that result from four-year high school curriculum.
Applications will be accepted through March 4. A fee of $15 is charged for the battery of five tests and $3 for each re-test.
