At this point all other councils were permitted either to participate in the Security Council’s dealing with emergency or continue with their current agenda. In the Security Council, China took the report of the radiation as a threat as they thought that the Soviets were experimenting with nuclear weapons. In the end, the emergency was diffused when it was realized that the radiation was caused by a “Star Wars” type accident.
All of the Wakefield students involved in the model UN agreed that it was a most informative trip and that they learned a lot about world issues. They were especially impressed by the sincerity of all involved; rules of protocol were strictly adhered to and all the students worked long hours both in preparation for the conference and during the actual proceedings.
