Wakefield has been named among the top scoring schools in the 1985-8R Virginia Mathematics League Contest in which advanced mathematics students from 115 high schools statewide participated.
The Wakefield team’s cumulative score of 28 was tied for third place just behind the second place score of 29 and the first place score of 30.
The competing teams in the contest are composed of the five highest scoring students in each school. The Wakefield team included Sean Bennett of Boston, Hank Sohn of Springfield and Larry Tarr of Warrenton. Those three students along with classmates Sean Dolan of Warrenton and Thomas Jerome Hegerich of Berryville comprised the Wakefield team. Elise Maar of Front Royal served as the alternate. All are calculus and pre-calculus students of Charles McGlothlin, the head of Wakefield’s Mathematics Department.
