The number of personal care clients seen by FamilyCare has jumped sevenfold this year. Personal care is given by companions and by personal care aides. Companions perform basic housekeeping that the client needs and prepares and serves clients’ meals. Aides help clients with bathing, walking, shopping, and with their laundry.
Nurses are also on call during the weekends in case clients who are under the care of the agency have an immediate problem.
One of the biggest changes of the year occurred when the agency moved recently from their outgrown quarters in the hospital to larger offices in the Medical Professional Building on Laurel Street. This new office next to Dr. John Payette’s office is headquarters for 32 staff members who in October made 484 home visits, not counting personal care visits.
FamilyCare staff members are qualified to provide skilled nursing, physical therapy, speech therapy, selected lab services, personal care and companion services to clients in their homes. Having professional care in their homes helps shorten or prevent hospital admissions for many clients.
Individuals and families as well as physicians may determine that FamilyCare is appropriate for a patient. After receiving information on the patient’s needs, the FamilyCare staff works closely with the personal physician to establish a plan for the care and treatment the client receives.
Patients who consult physicians who are located out of town find FamilyCare Home Care Services convenient for follow-up treatment and postoperative care without traveling long distances.
