The members of the Foothills Travel Association met on Tuesday at Meadowood, on 707, with Mrs. Lorainne Robson. According to Mrs. Robson the members are working on a brochure to promote tourism in District Nine. This brochure will highlight locations which might be of interest to all tourists visiting our area. Mrs. Robson, who is treasurer of the Association, says the next meeting will be held September 2 at Heritage House in Washington.
Mrs. Bessie Corbin spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Burke in Rochelle.
Mrs. Ertha Hawkins and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hawkins were guests last Sunday of Mrs. Hawkins’ niece, Mrs. Ashby Wayland and Mr. Wayland in Washington.
Our community was saddened by the death of Raymond J. Keys on Friday in Culpeper Memorial Hospital, and we offer our condolences to the family.
The Shiloh Association of Southern Baptists held the first session of their Association Wednesday at the New Salem Baptist Church here on 522.
Michael Wayne Frazier returned home Tuesday evening after spending the weekend with his aunt, Mrs. Alvin Atkins in Sperryville. Saturday Mrs. Atkins visited our Boston natives, Mrs. Lucy Thornhill and Mrs. Oliver Durant, who are residents at Culpeper Health Care Center. and report both ladies are improving.
Page Valley Fair
begins Sunday
The excitement is building for the upcoming Page Valley Fair beginning Sunday, August 17, at the fairgrounds. Opening day will feature the horse show at 1 p.m. followed by the baby contest at 5:30 p.m. and the beauty contest at 7:30 p.m.
Many 4-H/FFA activities will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, August 18, with women’s mud wrestling at 8 p.m.
Tuesday is 4-H Day when all school children are to be admitted free and $5 buys all your rides until they close that night.
The Open Tractor Pull will be held Wednesday, August 20. The pull is open to all counties and rules will be set by the Fair officials. There will be no mixing of classes. For more information, please call Francis Huffman at 743-5128 or 7782273.
More 4-H/FFA activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, August 21, and the 4-Wheel Drive Street Class Pull will be featured at the grandstand at 7 p.m.

The final day of the Fair Saturday, August 23, will find the 3wheelers competing at the ATC Trymoto Drag Races at 2:30 p.m. For information contact Sam Griffith at 743-3070.
Robin Robinson and Homeward Bound band will perform at 8 and 10 p.m. after which drawings for prizes from local merchants will end the week-long activities. r
