Christendom College in Front Royal will begin its 10th year August 25 with the largest enrollment in the school’s history: 138 students, including 42 new students. The students are drawn from 20 states.
The Opening Mass will take place at 10 a.m. with the Most Reverend John A. Keating, Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington, serving as main celebrant.
New and returning students will be welcomed by Dr. Damian Fedoryka, who is beginning his second year as president of the Catholic four-year liberal arts college. Fedoryka’s first act as president last year was to visit Pope John Paul II in Rome and formally place Christendom College at the service of the Church.
Another big opening day event will be the dedication of a new pavilion, to be named in honor of one of Christendom’s most dedicated supporters, John A. McCarty of Waltham, Mass. McCarty, 91, is a graduate of Harvard Law School and a veteran of World Wars I and II. His son, J. Laurence McCarty of McLean, serves on Christendom’s board of directors.
