Parents along with everyone else can help prevent vandalism, say State Police. Some of the best ways to prevent vandalism are to teach by example: respecting the law, other people’s rights and property; being responsible citizens; giving children time and recognition; getting help for children when they have problems.
State Police urge citizens to protect personal property against vandalism, keeping gates, garages, and houses locked; using outdoor lighting whenever possible and removing keys from parked cars. It is particularly important that persons report suspicious individuals and activities in their communities and that they cooperate with law enforcement personnel.
“Vandalism today has reached almost epidemic proportions,” said Colonel Suthard, “and it is going to take a cooperative effort by everyone to combat this senseless destruction of property.”
