New regulations that apply to the sale and advertising of fireplace or stove wood Were approved February 26 by the Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services and became effective . July 9. Enforcement responsibilities were assigned to the Weights and Measures Bureau.

Sellers of non-packaged fireplace or stove wood are now required to supply the purchaser with a delivery ticket or sales invoice. Also, any form of advertising referring to measurement of wood must include the word “cord.” A cord is defined as the amount of wood contained in a space of 128 cubic feet when the wood is racked and well stowed in a line with individual pieces touching and parallel to each other.

The Weights and Measures Bureau, in releasing the announcement, noted that in recent years they have received numerous complaints about amounts of wood delivered. Many consumers seem to be concerned about the size of a cord, a standard wood measurement. Consumers have been confused by terms such as face cord, rack, pile, or truck load. All of these can differ
