A standing-room-only crowd of more than 250 packed the elementary school gymnasium last Thursday night to urge the supervisors to approve the proposed high school expansion and accept the state’s low interest $1.5 million literary loan to fund construction.
The board accounted without voting on the questions. However, Chairman Hubert Gilkey promised a decision on Jan. 5, the next regular meeting of the supervisors.
Speaker after speaker sounded the same theme: the facilities at Rappahannock County High School are inadequate to meet the educational needs of the students now enrolled there.
A combination of remodeling and new construction, the RCHS capital outlay project will provide four new classrooms, including science labs with gas and water hook-ups and space for lab preparation and storage, a regulation size gymnasium with seating for 750, a clinic, an adaptive physical education room for handicapped students, larger kitchen, cafeteria and library, expanded guidance facilities and administrative offices, an auditorium
