Mrs. Minton has had a rather difficult life, and when people ask her how she can give everything to the animals, her answer is, “You don’t miss what you’ve never had.” We were visiting them on a bitterly cold Christmas Eve a few weeks after their life’s savings had been lost in the fire. They had gathered all the cats and kittens into the house, and the animals were lying peacefully around the cozy fire in the wood-burning stove. There was plenty of food and water for the cats, and they were all happy and free from fear.
33146801Had it not been for the Mintons, all of these stray and handicapped animals would have died, because nothing could have survived without proper food and shelter with temperatures so low.
For Dan and Shirley Minton, there was no ham cooking and no turkey baking in the oven - no Christmas cookies or candy were prepared - no smell of gingerbread floated through the house - no wrapped gifts were there to be exchanged. Yet, that house was overflowing with love. The cats and kittens were not cold. They were not afraid. They were not hungry. It did not seem important then when we noticed that Dan and Shirley did not . even have a Christmas tree. . i
