We are fortunate in this county to know each other as neighbors and friends. For this reason, we should be able to work together to find new solutions to our financial problems. If our taxes are not adequate to provide needed services and facilities for this county, we must either increase taxes, or find alternate sources of revenue. The one thing we must not do is continue to ignore the needs of this county.
My family has already demonstrated its willingness to contribute additional money to the High School Expansion Project. The Kilpatricks and the O’Mearas both pledged additional financial support at Thursday’s public hearing. With contributions from others, we can help make quality education a reality in Rappahannock County. I, personally, am willing to help raise money for this project, and I am certain that there are others who would also be willing to help for such a worthwhile cause.
With due respect to every member of the Board of Supervisors, I submit that the residents of this county have expressed their feeling that the High School Expansion Project is something that we need. I, therefore, urge you to approve acceptance of the literary loan. I further request that a real effort be made to find and make use of alternate sources of revenue, so as to lessen the tax burden of future improvements to our county facilities and services. Working together, we can improve the quality of life in Rappahannock County.
