endure, her love, caring and compassion know no bounds. Since her illness, Dan has taken over the care of the cats, with the first feeding starting at 5 a.m.

Now is the opportunity for all animal lovers to thank these folks for what they have done throughout the years for the cats. Shirley receives no county financial assistance and no compensation whatsoever except the satisfaction of knowing she saved, or tried to save, the lives of these unfortunate creatures. We are unaware of any other human who devotes every waking moment to working with the helpless animals that others have thrown away as garbage.

Mrs. Minton has rescued kittens brought to her that were found abandoned in empty diaper boxes in a drenching rain. Cats that had been brutally beaten, shot, trapped, tortured or mistreated have found a haven at the Minton home. She cares for the brain damaged, the blind, and the three-legged, and finds good homes for the adoptable animals. She even once tried, in vain, to save a kitten that had been found in a drum of oil. Among her many victories was saving the life of a beautiful cat that had been scalped after being brutally hung with a wire around her neck.

The emotional, physical and financial drain from all this is almost beyond belief. It would be tragic if the doors to the shelter had to close
