‘Stand By Me’
The movie Stand By Me will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26, at 7:30 p.m. The movie stare Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Jerry O’Connell, Corey Feldman, Andy Lindberg and Richard Dreyfiiss. A group of 12-year-old boys who consider themselves misfits set out to find the body of a boy their age who has been missing. During their two-day trek, they eryoy the bond of shared adventures and tight spots, but finally have to address the reality of their macabre mission. Wonderful performances by a talented group of young actors. The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Beauty pageant planned
The annual beauty pageant sponsored by the Sperryville Rescue Squad will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 7 p.m. at the Rappahannock Elementary School. Girls between the ages of two and high school seniors and boys between three and six are urged to participate. Rehearsal is set for Friday evening, April 24, at 6:30 at the school. Bloodmobile to be in Washington
The Red Cross bloodmobile will be at the Washington fire hall on Monday, May 4. All types of blood is needed. Area residents are urged to participate. The bloodmobile is sponsored by the Rappahannock Extension Homemakers Council.
Choral Society spring concert
The Culpeper-Piedmont Choral Society’s annual spring concert will be presented May 8 at 8 p.m. at the Culpeper County High School. Music Director Lois Shanks has chosen to trace the history of popular music from Civil War times through the 1960s. Performers include the 45-voice chorus (now in its 20th year), soloists, a barbershop quartet, dancer, narrator and instrumentalists.
