“The House and Senate deadlocked on a similar bill last year and the bill did not pass. Passage of the highway bill this year is necessary so the states can receive allocations from the Federal Highway Trust Fund for the budget year that began last October,” explained Rep. Slaughter.
He added that the funds are needed in Virginia for highway and transit projects that have already been planned. These projects have been delayed for months due to Congressional inaction on this legislation, he said.
