The SPTA opened its April meeting with a presentation by Waldron O’Conner on the literacy program in Rappahannock County. He noted that this is a free and private tutoring service available to anyone who wishes either to learn to read or to improve their reading skills.
Members received several updates, including confirmation of a letter from the SPTA to the school board supporting the teachers’ request for a late-start snow day policy. The April 3 family movie night, featuring the film Gus, was a success despite adverse weather predictions for that evening.
An RCES playground workday was held April 11th; however, anyone who missed that date but is still interested in helping to finish this project should call Cindy Andreoni (987-8750).
A sock hop is being planned for May 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the RCES gym. Anyone who knows of a band willing to play at this event should call Edie Clark (675-3188). Mrs. Clark will also be acting as the SPTA coordinator with RAAC in bringing various childrens’ theatre groups to the elementary school. The SPTA has already approved funds for the first event, scheduled for sometime in Mav.
