President Reagan has proclaimed April to be National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Throughout the nation, and in Virginia, numerous activities on the subject of child abuse and neglect are scheduled to take place.

The theme for this year’s activities is “Strengthening Families Through Awareness.” The National “Safe at Home Day,” will be an event patterned after the American Heart Association’s “Great American Smokeout” campaign, and April 25 has been dedicated to “peace within the family.”

Many citizens in the Commonwealth are aware of the problem of child abuse and neglect, but still the majority are unaware of how they can personally prevent this growing problem.
