Rappahannock County’s constitutional officers received an early expression of support from the county’s citizens, as seven of the nine posts up for election this fall will be uncontested. The deadline for filing petitions was Tuesday, June 9.
Only two magisterial districts will be contested, and in those districts both incumbent supervisors have announced they will not stand for reelection.
Newbill Miller, Hampton District’s representative on the board, announced he is retiring from office after 20 years of service to the county. Jackson District Supervisor Alvin Henry, appointed to fill the vacancy left by the death last year of J. R. Latham, first said he intended to run and then changed his mind. He cited the need to spend more time with his family and real estate business.
In Jackson District, the race will be between Col. Ellis Bingham, Franklin Fishback and Ronald Frazier. None has sought elected office before, although Mr. Frazier has long been an active citizen and a voice heard at many public hearings in the past. Col. Bingham has recently be
