We ei\joy the excitement of living next to an airfield for ultralights and helicopters. There’s constant, unremitting sound everywhere: the rumble of trains carrying everything from California fruit to Coal Tar, and the roar of jets landing and taking off from nearby Hobby International Airport. There’s a sense of something happening every moment of the day and night. Unfortunately, nights are filled with the incessant scream of sirens. The sound fills me with the same unnameable fear it did when I.was £ child. Ttying to return to sleep, I imagine the sounds of night at home - the chuckling queries of an owl, or perhaps a wayward pack of yodeling hounds.
