Huntly. This fire requires three different county companies plus two Warren County companies, plus some assistance from other volunteers who were at the first fire less than two hours before.
Or perhaps it’s a call in which the caller states a tractor trailer has hit a station wagon with seven passengers in front of the Rappahannock Fanners’ Cooperative. Imagine setting every tone on the board for rescue squads and personnel to respond. Then there’s the responsibility of controlling radio communication among nine fire and rescue vehicles, Sheriffs Department vehicles, State Police vehicles, getting in touch with two different med-evac helicopters — all of this at one time and knowing in which direction you are going at all times.
These are just two examples. This doesn’t include the times when she is busy dispatching a deputy to a disturbance, plus taking care of a female complainant that another deputy just brought in plus answering the phone call of a resident in the county reporting that a fire truck or rescue squad is needed somewhere.
Speaking for myself I would like to say “Thank you!” to Connie, Sheila, Vickie, Connie and Rhonda for the outstanding work you do in your field.
The dispatchers in the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office are very competent, well-qualified and mentally alert at all times, day or night, and need to be compensated for the many hats that they do wear.
It’s so much more reassuring to hear “Affirmative” on the radio knowing full well the dispatcher understood my message, rather than to hear “1(M Good buddy.”
