Thousands are expected to pack Culpeper’s Commonwealth Park this weekend during the 1987 edition of the Virginia Wineries Festival.
People of all ages toting picnic lunches, wearing brimmed hats, pushing designer strollers and wearing big smiles are expected at the event, which is the largest statewide wine festival on the Atlantic seaboard. Twenty Virginia farm wineries are expected to serve their best vintages during the two- day event. The winners of the Virginia Governor’s Cup Competition will also be announced.
Virginia’s award-winning and internationally acclaimed winemakers will be in attendance and festivalgoers will get the chance to meet them. Virginia winemakers are a varied lot. From a former Green Beret, World Bank economist, to a former Oxford University philosophy professor and prize-winning poet, i he winemakers bring an assortment of winemaking styles as varied as their backgrounds, which have won national and international acclaim from wine critics.
The 1987 festival features a vast choice of selected Virginia arts and crafts, a variety of food to satisfy all palates and which are, compatible with the wines being tasted and sold, the now famous grape stomping contest, musie and games —-all guaranteed to please the entire family. Tours of nearby vineyards and wineries will also be available.
