Delegate Raymond R. (Andy) Guest Jr. (R-31st) has announced that the Virginia Department of Ed■ ucation will hold a public hearing on Thursday, June 11, at 7 p.m. at the Warrenton Junior High School, 244 Waterloo St., Warrenton, to discuss the proposed revisions of the Standards for Accrediting Public Schools in Virginia.

As proposed, the new accreditar tion standards would govern the accreditation-of public elementary and secondary schools in the state. The proposed revisions to the accrediting standards emphasize literacy, including the use of phonics for teaching beginning reading, with increased emphasis on writing in all grades, as well as spelling, listening, speaking and mathematics. The proposed changes also put more emphasis on world, American and Virginia geography.
