The weather here turns hotter and wetter each day. As I write, the sun is shining; the rain is beating on the roof of our car and bending the fronds of the palm tree across the street from where I’m parked. Even the broad-leafed banana tree bows to the weight of the water. Slimmer has arrived in Houston and in a few weeks our family will return to Rappahannock County.
Last fall we left our home near Washington to spend six months together in the Houston area, where James’ computer programming job had been demanding more and more time. The change of environment from the Rush River to a city of over a million people has been an amazing adventure. Absolutely everything is different here, down to earth, air, and water. Using his two fists, fouryear-old Britton puts it this way:
“It’s like there are two planets. On this one is Rappahannock and on this one is Texas.”
