Noted gardener to speak

Penelope Hobhouse, world famous gardener and English garden planning consultant, is the featured lecturer at the garden benefit lecture, luncheon and fair Sept. 17 at Oatlands Plantation, near Leesburg. Beginning with a lecture at 10:30 a.m., the event includes a luncheon and reception, plus tours of the National Trust property manor home and gardens. Ms. Hobhouse is the author of numerous well-known books on gardening, including Colour in the Garden and The National Trust: A Book of Gardening. She has lectured throughout Great Britain, Europe, and America, and is a regular contributor to numerous gardening columns and television shows. Cost of the program is $60 per person. Ram, cattle sales

The 1987 Performance Tested Ram Lamb Sale will be held at the Virginia Sheep Evaluation Station in Steeles Tavern on Saturday, Aug. 29, beginning at 1 p.m. For additional information, contact the Extension Office at 675-3619.

Two special Feeder Cattle Satellite Sales are scheduled this fall. Cattle should be consigned two weeks prior to the sale date in order for the VDACS staff to be able to grade and videotape each lot. The satellite sales will be conducted in a fashion identical to the regularly scheduled Tel-O-Auctions. The only difference is that pictures will be broadcast, both at sale time and in a scheduled preview.

The sales schedule is as follows:

Saturday, Sept. 12:8 to 9 p.m., Preview.

Monday, Sept. 14: Sale, 10 a.m.

..Saturday, Oct. 10:8 to9 p.m., Preview.

Monday, Oct. 12: Sale, 10 a.m.
