A vaccine to protect against a dangerous childhood disease is now available.
Haemophilus Influenza Type b is an illness that causes meningitis (an infection involving the brain and spinal cord). Each year, 12,000 cases of this illness are discovered in children. In fact, one out of every 200 youngsters will become ill with the disease by the time they reach their fifth birthday.
It is a sad fact that one out of 20 children who become ill with Haemophilus meningitis will die from it, and one of four will suffer permanent brain damage. Many more will be afflicted with permanent damage to, bones, blood, hearing, throat, or be' plagued with other side effects of the disease.
