Nature programs
at Crockett Park
The Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring free nature programs for the whole family every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at C. M. Crockett Park near Midland.
On Sept. 1, the program will introduce forestry practices and how they affect and enhance the ecological balances in an environment. Entitled “Ecology & Forestry: Hand in Glove,” the program will begin with a demonstration of the equipment a forester uses and will be followed by the film “Ecology - Olympic Rain Forest.”
Want to learn how to attract different wildlife species to your home? “Create a habitat in your own backyard,” said Carol Heiser, park naturalist. “Invite Wildlife to Your Backyard” will be the program on Sept. 8.
And, for hawk and owl lovers, there will be a special bird of prey program on Sept. 15, featuring Roy Geiger, raptor rehabilitator for the National Wildlife Federation and live birds. (Note: this program will begin at 7:30 p.m.)
