The 1987 session of the General Assembly requested the State Corporation Commission (SCC) to conduct the meetings with the passage of House Joint Resolution 261. The General Assembly was responding to recent higher-than-normal premium increases, unexpected policy cancellations and the unavailability of particular lines of insurance being experienced by many Virginians.
The Bureau of Insurance this summer hosted similar public meetings in Roanoke, Richmond, Norfolk, and Fairfax. The Bureau will prepare a report of its findings from the meetings for the 1988 General Assembly.
