A covered dish supper meeting of the Bed and Breakfast Guild of Rappahannock County was held Aug. 24 at Meadowood Bed & Breakfast in Slate Mills.
Dates were set by the Guild for another series of the popular progressive dinners held last spring. The dinners will be offered on Oct. 29 and in January and February (specific dates to be announced). The Guild will also hold an open house on Sunday, Dec. 13. Most of the county bed and breakfasts will be participating. Further information can be obtained by calling any of the Guild members.
It was decided to have a B & B Guild booth at the Sperryville Apple Harvest Festival, Oct. 3 and 4, as well as a display in Washington, Va., Oct. 17 and 18. Visitors at either event may register to win a free night’s stay any weekday at participating Rappahannock bed and breakfast establishments. The drawing will be held Oct. 18.
Collective advertising was discussed at length. The definition of a member for the Guild was defined as a five-bedroom house in which the owner resides and offers breakfast to the guests and which meets all licensing requirements. The Conyers House is an exception to the fivebedroom limit by virtue of having had eight rooms by 1984 when the six-room definition of a B & B was established by the Virginia Health Department Ordinance. The Rappahannock County Zoning Ordinance now limits new bed and breakfast establishments to five bedrooms.
The members attending this meeting were Camille Harris from the Foster-Harris House, Nan and Jim Thomasson from Heritage House, Phil Irwin from Caledonia Farm, Sandra Cartwright-Brown from the Conyers House and Lorraine Robson from Meadowood.
