Woman’s club to meet
The Rappahannock Woman’s Club will meet on Tuesday, April 26 at 8 p.m. at the home of Mr$. Barbara Burke near Sperryville. Cheri Woodard, proprietor of The Faith Mountain Company in Sperryville will be speaking to the group on herbs. All members are urged to attend.
‘Lord of the Rings’
The movie Lord of the Rings will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m. and on Sunday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. Using amazing animation techniques, Ralph Bakshi brings to life all the fascinating inhabitants of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth fantasy. Different races compete for possession of the all-powerful Rings in this incredible animated epic. The movie is rated PG. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Country Gentlemen in concert
The enduring, award-winning blue-grass quartet, the Country Gentlemen, will be coming to Rappahannock on Saturday, April 29 for a concert at the Gay Street Theater in Washington, Va. at 7 p.m. Tickets for this rare local appearance are available in advance from Picture This in Warrenton, the Village Cafe in Washington, Culpeper Music Center in Culpeper, Faith Mountain in Sperryville, Royal Oak Bookshop in Front Royal and the RAAC Office, P.O. Box 24, Washington, Va. 22747. Tickets are $7.50 in advance and $8.50 at the door.

Film of the Fifties’
On Monday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. professor Joel Foreman of George Mason University will speak on Executive Suite, the novel by Cameron Hawley at the Rappahannock Public Library. This is the last work to be considered in the series sponsored by The Friends of the Library and The Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy. A film based on the book will be shown the following week on Tuesday, April 26 at the Gay St. Theater.
Gospel concert at theatre
There will be a community gospel concert at the Gay St. Theater, Friday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. The concert, jointly sponsored by The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community and the gospel musicians, is free to the public.
Beef referendum May 10
Beef Referendum voting will be conducted in the Rappahannock County Extension Office on Gay Street in Washington, Virginia, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (open during lunch hour) on May 10. Producers and importers unable to vote in person may request an absentee ballot by calling the Extension office at 675-3619. Absentee ballots must be received in the county Extension office by close of business on May 3, 1988. All cattle producers who owned or acquired cattle and importers of cattle, beef or beef products during the period of October 1,1986 through March 31,1988 are eligible to vote.
