Continued from Page 1 and threatening to kill her if she continued to refuse. She went into hiding for some time last year, living with friends. She told them she was fearful that if she surfaced Leaf would abduct her again and kill her.

Just before Christmas, Fairfield police received a tip that Leaf, a carpenter, and the boy would be at a Christmas party at a construction site. According to Fairfield police Captain Robert Comers, police found the two there, but were harassed by workers at the party while trying to arrest Leaf. In the melee, someone grabbed the boy and fled.

The boy was found two days later, wandering alone on a street in Shelton, Conn.

Leaf was charged with resisting arrest and possession of a weapon without a permit.

He remained in custody in Fairfield until February, when his employer posted bail and he was released. The charges against him were still pending last week when he kidnapped Ms. Hart and her son.
