In taxable sales, “the DecemberJanuary average showed a statewide gain of 11.3 percent, confirming that Virginia consumers spent quite freely for nearly all types of goods (except autombiles) during those two months,” Mr. Pearson reported.
Northern Virginia experienced a 7.4 percent employment rise instead of the earlier 3.6 percent; Charlottesville employment rose 4.5 percent instead of 1.8 percent; and Danville 3.1 percent instead of 0.9 percent.
