side Old Hollow, the FBI has no concrete evidence that any of the three ventured farther out of the hollow than the grocery store at the intersection of Rt. 612 and Rt. 211, which Leaf burglarized the night of April 5.
The three families who live in what is known as Spyder’s say they have never seen Mr. Leaf except in photographs showrn them by FBI agents. They further report that they have asked both the Star-Exponent and the television station to correct the error but that neither would agree to do so. Jane MullinWeisgerber explained that the only communal aspect of Spyder’s is shared maintenace of the road that serves three family residences. “We are not a commune. We are a community,” she said. “We help each other out, just like the members of any community. We celebrate birthdays together. We babysit for each other’s children. If someone’s car breaks down, we share transportation. We’re good neighbors, just like the neighbors in other Rappahannock communities.” And Charles Leaf was never a part of that community, she emphasized. “He has never lived here. He has never visited here. We don’t know him. We’ve never met him. We’ve never even seen him except in photographs.”
