Family Guidance Services of Rappahannock has welcomed a new counselor to the staff. Gary Rafala joined the team at the county’s mental health clinic in January, and “has already demonstrated a high level of ability,” according to site supervisor Lee Nettles.

Mr. Rafala came to Rappahannock from Lynchburg, where he worked at a city-run group home for adolescent girls. He described his duties as half-therapist, half administrator. Before coming to Virginia, Mr. Rafala worked as assistant director of a shelter for the homeless in Hartford, Conn.

In Rappahannock, he will be a general therapist. Mr. Rafala said that he “enjoys the diversity” of general therapy, and is busy building a caseload at the Rappahannock clinic. “We don’t specialize out here — we handle everything.”
