The Culpeper Minutemen Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, met on Tuesday, June 12 for a luncheon at Greenyear Farm, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar F. Puryear Jr. in Madison. The program was “A Salute to the Flag of the United States and Observance of Flag Day.”
Mrs. James F. Harkness, National Defense Chairman, presented an editorial written by Columnist James J. Kilpatrick, wherein he stressed the fact that we are taking our adversary position with Russia too lightly; we are buying their rhetoric; and if we succumb to their wishes we will ultimately be destroyed.
Mrs. Dale Metzinger, State Chairman of the Lineage Research Committee was presented an award for outstanding performance.
Mrs. Thomas Eastham and Mrs. Douglas Fairfax reported on the 98th Continental Congress held in Washington, D.C. Our other congressional representatives were Mrs. D.C. Knuepfer, Mrs. Kenneth T. Delavigne, and Mrs. Edgar F. Puryear Jr.
Mrs. Puryear is now the director of State District VI. The new Presidential-General of the NSDAR is Mrs. Eldrid M. Yockim. Our chapter received the DAR Gold Star honor roll award, it was announced.
Other happenings during these past few months: at the March meeting in Culpeper the DAR Medal of Honor went to Mr. Claude S. Guinn; the Conservation medal went to the Madison County Recycling Committee and was accepted by Ed D. Meares and Mrs. J. Jackson Fray; the American History Essay contest
