to bus routes. This year his office has received five requests from parents to make changes to the routes to pick up students on portions of roads that the buses have not been covering.
Some of the requests are for service to portions of roads that were previously served but have been dropped from the routes when there were no longer school-aged children living along them. “Some are for areas we have never served.”
This year six routes have been altered to make the number of students per bus more equal or to make the length of the runs more equal. “We try to balance the routes out,” he said. “When that happens it may be possible to extend a route.” '
At press time Dr. Gangel had not made a final decision on Mrs. Kuykendall’s request. “The bottom line is we try to serve as many as we can, but there are limitations. We have to look out for the collective interests of everyone, and safety is one of those interests.”
