Virginia by the Virginia Extension Homemakers,” said Extension Agent Helen Smith. “Last year 30 counties conducted the program and this year there are approximately 70 counties conducting the program,” she continued. May belle Gilkey is serving as the Extension Homemaker volunteer coordinator and coordinating the course along with Mrs. Smith and the planning committee.
“We are very excited to offer this financial course for women,” said Mrs. Smith. “It has been very successful and beneficial to participants in other counties throughout Virginia and we hope it will be equally informative beneficial to participants here.
“We have seven well-qualified speakers for the course, They include: Holly Carroll, CPA for Yount, Hyde & Barbour in Culpeper, who will teach the first session on ‘Getting Organized for Financial Management’; Mary Payne from Rappahannock National Bank will speak on ‘Banking Services’ at the second session; and Robert Aylor from Farmers and Merchants Bank will address ‘Credit’ at session three.
Session four on Women and Investments’ will be addressed by Helen Ryan from Scott and Stringfellow Investment Corporation. Joy Brockman from the Social Security Administration will teach session five entitled ‘Deciding What If...?’ Dr. Irene Leech, Extension Specialist in Family Finances from Virginia Tech, will speak on ‘Insurance’, and Sharon Luke, a local attorney will speak on ‘Legal Matters’, covering wills and estate planning.
