And finally, has it come to this? Art standards set by government committee? Becoming an artist, like becoming a brain surgeon, is not easy. I’m not sure that it should be easy, and I’m not sure that making it easy should be the role of government; however, given this trend, I expect to see 1) lots of art activity, 2) lots of mediocre art, and 3) higher taxes.
I think, for those who are upset by Jesse Helms, the moral of all this might be that if you are going to get a free meal from the Salvation Army, you should be prepared to listen to the sermon that goes with it.
