Did you know:

• The median income for women aged 65 and older is $6,425. This income includes earnings, Social Security, pensions and assets.

• The median income for all widows age 65 and older is $6,993. Fifty percent of women age 65 and older are widows.

• More than 3-1/4 million women ages 45 to 64 today lack any type of health insurance coverage.

• Statistics indicate that 50 percent of all marriages today end in divorce.

• The majority of women outlive men and a growing segment of women are choosing to stay single or are heads of households with dependents.

To help find solutions to these and other related problems, the Rappahannock Extension Homemakers, Rappahannock Extension Service, and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) are offering a seven-session workshop program beginning Sept. 11 at the Rappahannock Extension Office.

Especially designed for women, the Women’s Financial Information Program will include sessions on how to get organized — to identify where you are now and where you want to be; how to know where your money is going and why — to build financial security from the ground up; and how to create a budget, not just for necessities, but to allow for savings and a little more. The program will teach the participants how to conduct financial inventories; how to design personal cash flow systems; how to make decisions about credit and loan institutions, insurance programs, inventments, real estate and savings; how to plan for retirement; and much, much more.
