I’ve done no study of the time requirements of members of the General Assembly, but I’ve talked to enough of them to know that legislatives duties consume an increasing slice of time both in Richmond and at home.
Some legislators, particularly those who have gained some seniority, spend half or more of their time on General Assembly related duties. Not only do the demands of a rapidly growing state create the need for more work in Richmond between sessions, but legislators are called upon more often to perform services for constituents back home.
