The Town Council held a public hearing on the budgets for the town and the waters works, but nobody spoke except council members.
In other business, the council praised the fire department for their service and dedication, but voted to ask them for an accounting of the funds provided by the town to the fire department. They discussed and amended the zoning ordinance, and voted to refer it back to the Planning Commission for comment.
The budgets are unchanged from last year. Projected expenses for fiscal year 1994, commencing July 1, 1993, are $98,450 for the town, and $39,435 for the water works.
During budget discussions council member Ray Gooch said that the budget last year and this year includes funds to help the fire department pay the mortgage on their building. After that budget was passed, the ladies’ auxilliary wrote the Rappahannock News and said that the auxil - iary had paid off the mortgage.
“We give them $12,000 for the mortgage, and pay for the 4th of July fireworks,” Mr. Gooch said. “How is this money used?
