To the Editor:
I am writing in response to your editorial on June 9, 1993. In it you ask if the Republican Party of Virginia was making “Too Big a Right Turn?”
All three of these candidates (George Allen/Governor, Michael Farris/Lt. Governor, and Jim Gilmore/Attomey General) won with support of party regulars and new comers alike. It is the platform and the past record of these candidates that propelled them ahead of their opponents. The excitement the candidates brought to the citizens of Virginia led to the largest political convention in history which was open to all who share common sense approaches to good Government!
I wish to disagree with you on another point. I do not fell this election is “the Democrats to lose.” Im my opinion Mary Sue Terry is unfit as a leader of any sort. In 1985 (when first elected) in front of high school seniors and again this past April while speaking to Radford University’s graduating class she said, “My school was so small that they had to teach Driver’s Ed. and Sex Education in the same car.” I ask you is this what main stream voters want in a chief executive of their state government? And if this represents the top of the Democratic ticket, I have little confidence in Don Beyer or the candidate of Attorney General.
