Don't Budge on Sludge The Board of Supervisors made the correct decision to continue the ban on the land application of sludge. Many doubts about the safety of the sludge and its effects on tourism were expressed at the public hearing. Some samples: “It’s too great a risk to health and (the) environment.” “You can’t control what people flush down toilets. It’s like having open dumpsters. ” It “might adversely affect tourism and real estate values.” “I don’t look forward to my guests having to smell sludge.” The Board’s decision to reject sludge is a victory for public safety, the environment, and the future of Rappahannock County.
